The Bayer Seresto Necklace is an anti-parasitic collar and contains two active substances: imidacloprid which kills adult fleas, flea and lice larvae and flumetrin which repels and kills adult ticks, and larvae. Together, these two active substances have a significantly stronger effect on insects than by summing the effectiveness of each individual active substance.
Seresto collar is used to suppress and prevent infestation of cats and dogs with fleas for 8 months, to help control and treat allergic dermatitis caused by flea bites, to control and prevent infestation (repellent effect) by ticks for 8 months, to control infestation of dogs with fleas (Trichodect canis) and reduces the risk of leishmaniasis.
The action of the tick collar is that the tick picks up a small amount of collar active substances on their feet as they move through the skin and hair of the treated animal, resulting in a behavior called “hot foots” effect (reminiscent on barefoots walking on hot sand) , leading to an attempt to escape the tick from the animal. Shortly , the tick becomes paralyzed, falling from the pet’s body and dying before being given a chance to bite the animal. This phenomenon is known as a repellent effect that prevents the tick from feeding. In this way, the Seresto Collar repels and kills most ticks before they bite, thus reducing the risk of disease transmission. The collar has a repellent effect on ticks of the species Ixodes and Rhipicephalus, while on tick of the species Dermacentor has a killer effect.
All ticks are capable of being carriers of various health disorders and should be considered as potentially dangerous. Depending on the type of tick, their activity also depends. Some ticks are related to forest habitat (Ixodes) and are active throughout the day, some to river habitat and are more active in the morning and evening (Dermacentor) and some to rocky habitat (Rhipicephalus) and are more active when it is less warm.
It should also be noted that collar prevent tick infestations within 48 hours after application.
How to use
- Insert the end of the collar through the buckle and loops.
- Adjust the collar around your dog’s neck until it fits comfortably on them.
- Two fingers should fit beneath the collar and neck to ensure it’s not too tight. Any excess length of the collar beyond an inch past the loops should be cut off, unless it is on a growing puppy, where some additional length may be needed for adjustment as the puppy grows.
- Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially on growing puppies.
- Seresto comes with three optional reflector clips that can be attached to the collar to help keep your dog visible at night. The reflector clips should be evenly distributed on the non-overlapping part of the collar.
It should be borne in mind that with the use of antiparasitics, it is necessary to inspect the dog well after walking in order to detect ticks that may have become hooked, since no protective agent works 100%. Given that the new tick needs to be spent on the dog for 2-3 days to be able to transmit the causative agent of pyroplasmosis, regular control and timely removal of the tick may be crucial in preventing the disease.
Seresto flea collar for dogs is water resistant and remains effective after shampooing, swimming or exposure to rain or sunlight. (Dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for flea control, and reduced to seven months for tick control.) This flea and tick collar for dogs is odorless, non greasy and easy to apply. It can be used alongside other identification or restraining collars without damaging them. Works through contact, so fleas and ticks don’t have to bite your dog to die. Also aids in the treatment and control of sarcoptic mange and kills lice.
Seresto is a polymer matrix collar that offers a continuous supply of two active ingredients: imidacloprid and flumethrin for effective protection against fleas and ticks. The active ingredients are stored within the collar. They are released in low concentrations and are distributed over the pet’s hair and skin surface.
Can be use for 8 month prevention and treatment of fleas and ticks on cats and kittens 10 weeks of age and older: repels and kills fleas and ticks, including deer ticks (vector of Lyme disease and Anaplasmosis), American dog ticks (vector of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, cytauxzoonosis and Ehrlichiosis), brown Dog ticks (vector of ehlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and rocky Mountain spotted feces), and lone Star ticks (vector of cytauxzoonosis and Ehrlichiosis).
As the “fight” against ectoparasites becomes more and more complex, and the parasites themselves more and more resistant, many owners are opting to combine different pet protection products. However, caution should be exercised here to prevent potential health disorders caused by the combination of active substances with the sensitivity of the pet. Thus, as a rule, the combination of, for example, ampoules and necklaces is not advised as cases of various dermatological disorders are known in certain susceptible pets. However, all ampoules and necklaces can be combined with garlic tablets (eg Dr. Clauders) and can be used insecticidal powders or essential oil based sprays, as well as an ultrasonic pendant, repellent against external parasites (Vitakraft) as an additional protection.
